Translation of documents by the notary and acceptance of the documents executed abroad

The notary’s paperwork in Ukraine shall be managed in the Ukrainian language.

If an individual who has applied for performance of a notarial act does not have a good command of the Ukrainian language, upon his/her request, the texts of the executed documents shall be translated by the notary or translator into the language wherein the individual is fully conversant.

Notary Private O.V. Korotiuk interprets and translates texts of documents from the Ukrainian language into the Russian language and vice versa.

For interpretation or translation from or into other languages an interpreter or translator is invited.

For authentication of translation, the original document to be translated or a duly notarized copy thereof shall be submitted to the notary.

The documents executed abroad shall be accepted by the notary provided that they have been legalized by departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Unlegalized documents executed abroad shall not be accepted by the notary, unless otherwise provided for by the laws of Ukraine and international treaties to which Ukraine is the party.

In accordance with the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Cases of 22.01.1993, the documents executed in the following countries shall be accepted in Ukraine without legalization or other special certification:

the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Armenia, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Tajikistan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic.

The documents issued in the states – parties to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (Hague Apostille Convention, 1961) shall be accepted by the notary provided that they have been apostilled.

The documents issued in other states shall be subject to consular legalization.

Attention!

The documents executed in the language other than Ukrainian or Russian shall be accepted for performance of notarial acts only if they have been translated.
